Lovely antique American flag featuring 46 stars. This flag’s date is most likely anywhere from 1907 - 1912. Although states were not added to the official American flag as stars until the following 4th of July (via the flag act of 1818), many times flag makers jumped the gun and produced flags earlier than the official release date. In this case, Oklahoma became a state on November 16, 1907. The American flag kept its 46 stars until New Mexico and Arazona joined in 1912.
About this particular flag: To add to this flag’s mystique, it was found at the bottom of the world in New Zealand! I unfortunately don’t know the story behind this, but I imagine an American immigrate packed along a family heirloom as a piece of home to bring along with them. This flag has its 46 stars configured in an 8/7/8/8/7/8 pattern. All stains, holes and age markings have been left as a part of its story.
