Gorgeous small silk parade flag of New Zealand! In general, older flags from NZ can be tricky to come across, so this silk one is really rare because of how delicate it is! I’ve been fortunate enough to find some old cotton parade flags, but this is my first silk NZ flag to come across! By nature, parade flags were meant for ceremonies and not necessarily for long-time wear and use.
I am not sure of the origin of this one, but I recently sold a similar French silk parade flag that had “Made in Japan” inscribed along the seam.
As you can see in the pictures, there are quite a few rips/holes, discoloration from age and a little color-bleeding of the dye.
The stick part is very light weight and feels like rattan? The decorative finial is painted a shiny gold, with quite a bit of it faded or chipped off.
Measurements: body of flag approx. 6x8.5 inches, pole is 13.25 inches long
