Gorgeous small silk United Kingdom parade flag. By nature, parade flags were meant for one time use at ceremonies, or occasionally display, and not necessarily for long-time wear and use. Especially silk ones, because silk is not a hardy fabric. So it’s always exciting to find one still intact!
I am not sure of the origin of this one, but I recently sold a similar French silk parade flag that had “Made in Japan” inscribed along the seam.
As you can see in the pictures, there are quite a few rips/holes, discoloration from age and a little color-bleeding of the dye.
The stick part is very light weight and feels like rattan perhaps. It also has a somewhat irregular, natural shape to it. The decorative finial is painted a shiny gold, with quite a bit of it faded or chipped off.
Measurements: body of flag approx. 6x8.5 inches, pole is 13.25 inches long
